Founded PHC in 2009, on one standard

Dr Tahira founded the Psychological Help Centre in Karachi in 2009 with a single standard: every psychologist on the team must be properly qualified, properly supervised, and working inside an evidence-based clinical framework.

That standard has not moved since. It is why the practice grew slowly, and it is what sets the minimum every other profile on this site is measured against — an MSc or MPhil in clinical psychology and over 800 supervised clinical hours before anyone sees a client here.

The second founding decision was about order. Most practices start with a conversation and see where it goes; PHC starts by measuring. A psychological assessment is a structured clinical process that uses internationally validated tests to produce a written report on how a person thinks, learns, processes emotion and functions day to day — and every assessment here begins with an initial session that establishes which tests are clinically warranted, so nobody is put through a battery of tests they did not need. Assessment first, then treatment, is the shape of the whole practice.

Academic leadership

She has taught clinical psychology at Bahria University's Institute of Professional Psychology for over 20 years, and has trained and mentored hundreds of psychologists now practising across Pakistan and internationally.

Several of them are on this team. That is the part of the record that is hardest to see from outside and easiest to verify from inside: a good deal of the clinical psychology being practised in this city was taught by her.

Teaching and clinical practice have run alongside each other for her whole career rather than one following the other, which is why the university record and the clinic record are set out here as one thing and not two.

HEC-approved research supervisor

Dr Tahira is an approved research supervisor by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan — one of a limited number of clinical psychologists in the country to hold the designation.

It is what allows PHC to run a formal clinical supervision programme rather than an informal one, and it is the reason the practice takes MPhil and PhD candidates as well as clients.

Certified professional trainer

She is a certified professional trainer recognised by the International Association of People and Performance Development, and runs training and professional development for psychologists, organisations and schools.

Research and publications

She has published research in internationally indexed journals, including work recognised by Psychological Abstracts and WHO's Regional Index Medicus.

She is also the author of two books written for general readers rather than for clinicians, on mental wellness and on cognitive behavioural therapy.

Memberships

Member of the American Psychological Association. Approved research supervisor, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Certified professional trainer, International Association of People and Performance Development.

Her qualifications, memberships and publications are verifiable. In a field where credential inflation is a known problem in Pakistan, that matters — and it is the reason every other profile on this site lists a qualification and an institution rather than an adjective, and an hours figure wherever that clinician's own credentials give one.

Every designation on this page names the body that granted it, and each one can be checked with that body directly rather than taken from us.

What she works on now

Alongside her own clinical work, Dr Tahira runs PHC's HEC-approved clinical supervision programme and its competitive internship placement for BS, MSc and MPhil psychology students, who carry real casework to the same professional and ethical standards as everyone else here.

Sessions are 50 minutes, in clinic in Karachi or online. Which clinic and which times are confirmed when you book — psychologists are matched on speciality and presenting needs, not on who happens to be free.

Book with Dr Tahira Yousaf That sends a request for a session with Dr Tahira specifically. It is a request rather than a confirmed appointment: we come back to you by phone or on WhatsApp with a time and a fee, and nothing is charged until you have agreed to both. Once you do, the slot is held once your booking payment arrives — half the fee, at least 24 hours before the appointment, in cash or by bank transfer. The rest is paid after the session. If the time no longer suits, tell us and we will look for another slot. If her diary is full, or you are not sure she is the right person to start with, send us your details without a name and we will match you — that is our job, not yours.

Everything on this page is general information about a member of our clinical team. It is not a diagnosis, not treatment, and reading it does not create a clinician–client relationship.

Speaking to someone starts here

PHC is appointment-only. Message or call and a real person answers — Monday to Saturday, 10am to 8pm PKT.

Not sure whether this is us? Contact us anyway. We will tell you directly whether we can help, and refer you elsewhere if we cannot.

Six details, and we can match you

  • Name of the person who will attend
  • Their age
  • What is going on, in your own words
  • Whether you would prefer a male or female psychologist
  • Online, or in clinic in Karachi
  • Whether the person attending is a minor or elderly

If someone else is paying, we will also ask for guardian or payer details. A slot is held once the booking payment is received — half the fee, at least 24 hours ahead.
